The Current State of Kitchen Remodeling Industry

We all are hearing stories of how much the home remodeling industry is booming…and it is with some caveats.

About appliances.

Appliances continue to be a major issue for projects to be on time.

New order appliance delivery as of late March 2021 are 12-16 weeks out and some deliveries are out as far as October of 2021.  Some are not even taking orders currently with no hope of delivering in 2021.  Shortages of materials, allocation of some items, discontinued models and finishes, and lingering COVID-19 issues continue to push the limits of clients’ understanding and patience.

Many in the appliance industry admit to disliking their jobs right now.  A recent conference call from a major premium manufacturer noted that the suicide rate of associates in the industry had spiked!  Really?!?!  This should give us all pause and consideration to how we communicate and treat one another about issues beyond our individual control.

Computer keyboard, project management software and day planner are among the essentials in the kitchen remodeling industry.

Plan and work with the facts as we know them.

As serious as things may be, there are a number of things that our design team members at Hampton Kitchens can do to accommodate unexpected situations such as this.

  • Plan and work with the facts as we know them.

  • Plan ahead and order appliances earlier in the process.

  • Pay for them to be in local stock when needed.

  • Stay in communication with manufacturers, vendors, contractors, and consumers to keep all parties up to date.

  • Use existing units until we get the new ones by building in contingencies and ways to accommodate surprises.

We have to be agile and focus on solutions instead of frustrations.

No one likes where we are, but we can and will get through it all with strategic planning and some understanding.
